Sleep On The Left Side Yogic Science Better Digestion & Sleep

A simple yogic practice: sleeping on the left side activates Surya Nadi, supports digestion, and helps maintain internal balance.

Within our body, the functioning of jatharagni (digestive fire-37 Degree), water balance, and air — through which we are able to breathe and speak — happens automatically. This continuous, self-regulated functioning is truly a blessing of God.

Guru Maharaj Ji guides us to prefer sleeping on the left side, especially to avoid acidity and support healthy digestion.

The logic behind this is simple yet profound. When we sleep on the left side, the right nostril (Surya Nadi) remains active. Surya Nadi stimulates jatharagni, keeping the digestive fire balanced and active. As a result, acidity is reduced and the digestive system functions more efficiently, helping the body remain healthy.

Sleeping on the right side is not harmful, but in that position the Chandra Nadi becomes active. Chandra Nadi circulates cooling energy within the body. While this has its own benefits, it can slow down digestion, causing the food we consume to take longer to digest.

Similarly, practicing Surya Mudra generates internal heat within just a few minutes when performed correctly. This mudra supports digestion, metabolism, and overall internal warmth.

Therefore, keeping the body warm from within is essential for maintaining good health and balance in life.
