Buddha Teaching Selflessness Story

Lord Buddha’s Teaching of Selflessness

Once, Lord Buddha was travelling with his disciple Anand. On their way, Buddha saw a tree with flowers in a withered state, almost near death. He looked around, but there was no source of water anywhere nearby. Buddha then took the little water he carried for his journey and poured it all at the roots of that thirsty tree.

Seeing this, Anand asked, “Lord, what will you drink now in this long journey, when you have given away all the water to this tree?”

Buddha replied, “Anand, did you not see the condition of this tree? It was dying of thirst before my eyes. For me, saving a life that is in front of me is more important than worrying about myself. When my time of need comes, God Himself will send someone to help me.”

Guru Maharaj Sant Trilochan Darshan Das Ji’s Message

Guru Maharaj Sant Trilochan Darshan Das Ji wants us to implement the same teaching in our lives. Do not worry about the future—if today God is blessing us with food to eat, He will surely bless us in the future as well. This positive approach, rooted in faith and belief, is what we need to live by.

And if a time ever comes when sorrows feel heavier than the strength you have to face them, surrender everything to God. At that moment, connect more deeply with Him, and His mercy will surely help you overcome the obstacles of life.
