Dason Ka Das – Servant of the Servants
दासों का दास – भक्तों का भी सेवक
Once, Lord Hanuman Ji wished that every Vanar of Kishkindha should receive the divine darshan of Lord Ram. Filled with immense devotion, Hanuman Ji went joyfully among the entire Vanar Sena, saying:
“My Lord Ram is coming! Please come and receive the divine darshan of Prabhu Shri Ram.”
Hanuman Ji was the Senapati of Sughriv ji. Whatever he said, every one lovingly accepted. Hearing the sweet call of Hanuman Ji, lakhs of Vanars happily gathered together to welcome Lord Ram.
As the entire Vanar Sena assembled, Hanuman Ji slowly moved himself from the front towards the back of the army. Step by step, he placed himself farther behind everyone, until he finally sat quietly at the extreme end with folded hands, softly chanting:
“Ram… Ram… Ram…”
When Lord Ram arrived and saw the vast Vanar Sena gathered before Him, He asked Sugriv Ji,
“Where is My Hanuman?”
The divine voice of Lord Ram echoed through the entire army. Hearing these words, all the Vanars turned back and saw Hanuman Ji sitting humbly at the farthest end.
The Vanars near him lovingly said,
“Hanuman Ji, Prabhu Shri Ram is calling you.”
At once, Hanuman Ji rushed to the lotus feet of Lord Ram and bowed down deeply.
Lord Ram lovingly asked,
“Hanuman, why were you sitting so far behind? I was searching for you.”
With folded hands and eyes filled with devotion, Hanuman Ji replied:
“Prabhu, I am only Your servant. But when I went to call the entire Sena for Your darshan, I saw how deeply every Vanar loved You. At just one call in Your name, they all came running with joy and devotion.
The rush and longing they had in their very first meeting with You was far greater than mine. I do not run towards You with the same intense love and eagerness with which they all came running just to receive Your divine darshan, Prabhu.”
Seeing their immense love for You, by Your mercy I realized that I am not only Your servant… I am the servant of all those who are devoted to You.
Dason Ka Das.”
Such is the humility of Hanuman Ji — though the greatest devotee of Lord Ram, he always considered himself the servant of the Lord’s servants.
