Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji: A Life of Divine Qualities and Service
Qualities of Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji
In this clip, Guru Maharaj Sant Trilochan Darshan Das Ji educates us on the precious occasion of Guru Purnima, highlighting the importance of a Guru or Spiritual Master, and the divine qualities of our Master, Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji.
Once, Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji got injured on his head when a brick fell from above while he was working. Instead of informing his family or asking for medical help, Guru Ji bore the pain silently. His uncle, who had asked Guru Ji to cut crops using a machine, noticed drops of blood on the floor. When he looked closer, he saw the injury on Guru Ji’s head, which Guru Ji was quietly wiping with his hand while continuing to work. His uncle asked, “What happened?”
Guru Ji replied, “A brick fell on my head.”
The uncle asked, “Why didn’t you inform me or tell your family?”
Guru Ji humbly said, “We don’t have enough money, and the doctor would charge us for treatment. So I chose to apply some soil on my head instead.”
At just 10 years old, Guru Maharaj Ji demonstrated the qualities of patience and contentment, bearing pain without complaint or expectation, and showing maturity beyond his years.
Divine Experience at Age 14 – Chosen by God
At the age of 14, while working in the fields of Batala, India, Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji experienced his first divine encounter with Almighty God. This awakening did not come from his own will—he was chosen by God and received direct instructions from the Supreme:
"You have come here to work for Me and carry the burden that I will place upon you—not just worldly duties, but a divine mission.”
That very evening, Guru Ji returned home with a fever that lasted four days. He couldn’t share the incident with his family, and it was only a year later that he told his mother (Mata Ji) what had truly happened.
Enlightenment at Age 17 – The Awakening of Divine Powers
At 17 years of age, Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji received complete enlightenment from the Supreme Power and accepted the divine command to serve God from that day forward.
His spiritual powers became fully awakened. Guru Ji became Antaryami—one who knows the unseen and the thoughts of others. He would call strangers by their names and speak about their purpose of visit even before they said a word.
This divine knowledge, in a time with no newspapers, phones, or social media, spread only by word of mouth. What began in Jalandhar soon reached England and beyond, touching thousands of lives.
Blessings from Bhagwati Ji, Lord Shiva, and Guru Nanak Dev Ji
After this, Maa Bhagwati Ji appeared before Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji and shared divine knowledge with him for an hour. Following that, Lord Shiva also visited Guru Ji the same day and further awakened his inner divinity.
That very night, Guru Nanak Dev Ji also appeared and blessed Guru Ji with his grace. Guru Ji began referring to Guru Nanak Ji lovingly as “Dhan Nanak”. From then on, the eternal slogan:
“Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhala”
became the guiding message of Guru Ji’s spiritual mission.
The Foundation of Das Dharam – A Life Devoted to Humanity
The day after receiving these divine blessings, Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji dedicated every single day of his life—33 years in total—to fulfilling the mission given by God. He established the Das Dharam Mission, a spiritual path rooted in humanity, love, equality, and truth.
Guru Ji gave us divine gifts—the Nishan Sahib, Yashwanti Niradhar Bani, the spiritual dress (Wardi), and above all, the Naam (divine word). He spread the universal message of “Prabh Abhinashi” and “Nanak Naam Chardi Kala” to people of all communities—Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims—treating all of humanity as one.
A Message for Us All
Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji lived with divine qualities that are hard for us to even imagine. But he always shared a simple, beautiful teaching with the world:
Those who do not live as true Sewadars, who fail to develop humility and a soft-hearted nature, cannot be accepted in the divine court of God or at the feet of a True Guru.
Our Guru Purnima Vow
So on this sacred day of Guru Purnima, let us take a fresh vow:
It’s easy to speak of temple preaching—but Guru Maharaj Darshan Das Ji built Das Dharam from the ground up, with no selfish desire—only divine vision and selfless love.
With love and folded hands, we bow to:
Dhan Guru Nanak Ji
Dhan Guru Darshan Das Ji
Dhan Guru Trilochan Darshan Das Ji
Nanak Naam Chardi Kala
Tere Bhane Sarbat Da Bhala
