Kabeer Ji’s Teaching – Praise the One Who Gave You Everything
कबीर जी की सीख – जिसने सब कुछ दिया, उसका गुणगान करो
Once, Kabeer Ji was travelling towards Kashi Varanasi. During his journey, he heard the voices of a group of women walking ahead of him.
Among them was a newly married woman who was happily praising her husband and mother-in-law for giving her a precious gift—a beautiful gold nathni (nose pin).
She was telling her friends again and again:
“My husband and my mother-in-law gifted me this beautiful gold nathni. They have given me such a precious gift.”
She continued praising her husband and his family for the gift.
Kabeer Ji was walking behind the group and listening to their conversation. After hearing her praise repeatedly, Kabeer Ji increased his pace and caught up with the group.
Kabeer Ji was known for expressing his spiritual thoughts through poetry, filled with immense love for God.
He gently asked the newly married woman:
“Sister, and all of you whom I consider like my daughters, I have been listening to you praising your husband and his family again and again for giving you this precious gold nathni.
“Tell me one thing. Have you ever thought about the One who made you capable of wearing this nose pin? He gave you the nose on which you are wearing it.
“Didi, have you ever praised God with the same love and happiness that you are showing while praising those who gave you this gift?”
We know how to praise our loved ones when they give us gifts. We remember their kindness and repeatedly speak about what they have given us.
But we often forget to praise the Lord, who has given us everything.
He gave us this beautiful face, this nose, this body, our breath, and this precious human life.
Kabeer Ji expressed this thought beautifully in poetry:
“Nathni Deeni Yaar Neh — Chintan Barum Baar,
Naak Diya Kartar Neh — Usko Diya Visaar.”
In this illusionary world, we become so busy praising people, their gifts, and their deeds that we forget the One who has given us everything.
We remember the giver of a small gift, but forget the greatest Giver of all—the Lord Himself.
Kabeer Ji reminds us to turn our attention towards God and praise the One who gave us this life, this body, and everything we have.
