Maa Bhagwati and the Destruction of Rakt Beej — The End of Arrogance
When Maa Bhagwati was absorbed in deep meditation upon the Lord, she received urgent prayers from the Devas and Devis. They came to her, distressed, seeking help against the growing terror of the Rakshasa Rakt Beej, who was misusing his immense powers and spreading chaos across the worlds.
Rakt Beej had received a boon from Lord Brahma Ji — that every drop of his blood falling upon the earth would give birth to another Rakt Beej, identical in strength and form. Empowered by this blessing, he created an army of millions, unmatched in might, and began to rule with cruelty and pride.
Lord Shiva, in his compassion, warned Rakt Beej, saying,
“You have been given one kingdom to rule. Do not disturb the order of the world or harm the innocent.”
But blinded by arrogance, Rakt Beej replied with defiance,
“I shall rule the entire world, and all shall live under my command.”
Hearing this, Lord Shiva warned him once again,
“If you do not stop your wicked acts, Maa Bhagwati herself will punish you for your deeds.”
In time, as Rakt Beej’s cruelty worsened, the Devas prayed once more to Maa Bhagwati. Responding to their call, the Divine Mother appeared before Rakt Beej in her resplendent form. She warned him sternly,
“The boon granted to you by Lord Brahma was earned through your past good deeds. But if you misuse it, that very boon will turn into your curse.”
Yet, Rakt Beej, ignorant and proud, laughed at the Goddess and said,
“I want you to become my wife.”
Hearing this arrogance, Maa Bhagwati revealed her fierce form. In divine fury, she transformed into Maa Kali, her tongue spreading ten kilometers wide, ensuring that not even a single drop of Rakt Beej’s blood touched the earth. With her terrifying might, she consumed Rakt Beej and all his manifestations, absorbing every drop of his blood into herself.
Thus ended the reign of Rakt Beej — the one who misused divine grace.
Maa Bhagwati, who remains silent and compassionate, can destroy all evil when provoked by arrogance and injustice. Her silence is peace, but her anger is the end of darkness.
