Maa Chanan Devi’s Divine Testimony of Her Son’s Enlightenment
Once, Maa Chanan Devi—mother of Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji—was speaking to Maharaj Sant Trilochan Darshan Das Ji about Hazur Maharaj Ji.
Mata Ji said lovingly, “Dear, you know your father was a form of God. He himself was God. There will never be anyone like your father.”
Maharaj Ji would listen to Mata Ji with pride and happiness. Sometimes, just to tease her, he would say, “Mata Ji, what have you seen that makes you say Maharaj Ji was God?”
Mata Ji replied, “People ask me what I have seen that makes me say he was God—but the real question is, what have I not seen?”
She continued, “Son, after his Jyot Prakash—his divine enlightenment—I would stay awake the whole night thinking. I would wonder how my son could speak such profound spiritual truths. Sitting quietly in a corner, I would think: From where is he receiving such divine wisdom to guide the Sangat?
“At times, I felt immense joy that my child was blessed with the power to uplift others. But then another thought would come—what if this divine energy is limited? What if the world mocks my child one day?”
Mata Ji then shared the moment that changed everything.
“The very first time I went to meet Maharaj Ji after receiving a call from Jalandhar to Batala, someone said to me, ‘Maasi, your son Darshan has become Baba Ji now.’ The ground slipped from under my feet when I heard this. I had sent Darshan to do business—what was I hearing now?
“I decided to go to Batala immediately. I carried the sacred dust from my Guru’s feet with me. I told my husband to come the next day—I wanted to go first.
“When I reached Batala early in the morning, Maharaj Ji had been sitting day and night, listening to the devotees. Even before I arrived, Guru Ji told the Sangat that his mother was on her way. He even sent people to receive me. It was as if he was giving a live telecast of my arrival.
“All the way, I was scared—thinking that maybe some negative power had taken over my son.
“But when I reached the door, Maharaj Ji told everyone to stand up, saying, ‘My mother has come.’ He stood up from the Gaddi and bowed at my feet, saying, ‘Mother, if I have ever hurt you, please forgive me.’
“He never disagreed with me, never disobeyed me, never raised his voice at me.”
Mata Ji continued, “When Maharaj Ji sat at my feet, he said, ‘Mother, the dust from your Guru’s feet that you brought to apply on me—thinking that if some wrong power has influenced me, it will be removed—I already know everything.’
“I said, ‘Son, you know all this?’
“He replied, ‘Yes mother, God has opened my eyes. I know everything—what someone is thinking, their past, their future. Everything.’”
