Ram Teri Sharnayi: Prahalad’s Unshakable Devotion

Once, the young devotee Prahalad greeted his father, Hiranyakashyap, with deep respect, bowing fully before him. Touched by this act, the proud king smiled and invited Prahalad to sit on his lap.

Curious, Hiranyakashyap asked, “Where did you learn such respect and manners?”
Prahalad humbly replied, “From my Lord Ram, the one who governs the entire universe,” and then recited:

|| जल ही राम है, थल ही राम है।
जल में राम है, थल में राम है ||

|| Ram is in the water, Ram is on the land.
Ram is everywhere! ||

Hearing this, Hiranyakashyap—blinded by ego—was infuriated. He threw Prahalad off his lap, declaring himself the only supreme power.

Unshaken by his father’s wrath, Prahalad fearlessly addressed him not as a father, but as "Daitya Raj" (King of Demons), making it clear that true greatness comes not from power or riches, but from surrender to God.

Enraged, Hiranyakashyap tried numerous times to kill his own son. One such infamous attempt became the origin of the Holi festival. He ordered his sister Holika, who had a divine boon against fire, to sit in flames with Prahalad in her lap. But Prahalad, unwavering in faith, kept chanting:
"राम तेरी शरणाई"
(O Lord Ram, I surrender to You!)

In a divine twist, Holika burned to ashes while Prahalad remained untouched—protected by the unseen grace of Lord Ram. It was as if God Himself stood between Prahalad and the flames.

This timeless story teaches that faith in God transcends even blood ties, that truth stands unshaken in the face of tyranny, and that divine protection embraces those who surrender with love and purity.
