Seeing the One Truth Beyond Religions – Shirley’s Awakening with Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji

Shirley was a Christian. She first heard about Guru Maharaj Ji through people of the white community in England, where the praise and divine works of Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji had spread widely across England. Curious and drawn by what she heard, Shirley decided to visit Maharaj Ji.
When she reached the place, she stood patiently in the queue. When her turn came and she stood before Hazur Maharaj Ji, Maharaj Ji gently asked her, “Whom do you worship?”
She replied honestly, “I worship Jesus.”
The moment she said this, something extraordinary happened. In her eyes, Hazur Maharaj Ji’s appearance changed into that of Jesus. Seeing this, Shirley became emotionally overwhelmed. She shouted loudly, lost control of herself, and rushed out of the premises. From there, she went straight back home.
At home, her mind was filled with fear and confusion. She thought she had committed a grave mistake by visiting Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji and felt that Jesus would never forgive her. She believed that Maharaj Ji had somehow bound her mind, because she was continuously seeing his glimpse of Hazur Maharaj Darshan das ji and Jesus.
To correct what she thought was her mistake, Shirley decided to visit the church in Jerusalem, Israel, near to Jesus births place, to confess and seek forgiveness for being distracted from her religion.
When she entered the church and bowed before Jesus, the moment she looked at the idol, she again saw the face of Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji over the image of Jesus. Shocked and shaken, she cried loudly and ran out of the church once more.
Her husband tried to calm her and said, “Shirley, relax. Let us go inside again.”
After about half an hour, when she felt slightly composed, she went inside the church again. But once more, she saw Hazur Maharaj Ji’s appearance over Jesus.
At that moment, she prayed from her heart:
“Jesus, if it is Your will that I accept Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji as my spiritual mentor, then I will do so. I am seeing his glimpse even here in the church while seeking Your divine sight.”
After this inner acceptance, Shirley returned to Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji. Shirley folded her hands and said, “I am here. Please guide me on your taught path. What should I keep in my life, and what should I leave?”
She further said, “I have heard that you advise people not to consume alcohol and meat. We are Christians by birth, and we eat meat and drink alcohol. I somehow understand and accept the concept of not eating non-vegetarian food, as non-veg is not acceptable to God,( the human body is not meant to digest the flesh of another living being. Such food carries its own toxins and nature, which impacts human life).”
Then she humbly asked, “But may I ask, why should we not drink alcohol? What is wrong in that?”
Hazur Maharaj Ji lovingly replied,
“Shirley, when a human drinks alcohol, he loses his senses. He forgets his home, his relatives, and even who is sitting in front of him. His vision becomes impure, especially towards women. He falls on the road, and others have to pick him up and carry him home. Sometimes he even fights with the police, thinking himself to be superior and extremely powerful. He uses abusive words and feels no regret for his mistakes or bad karma.”
Guru ji continued,
“When a person becomes so unconscious that he forgets even where he lives, Shirley, then understand this— I am here to awaken you, from the state of unconsciousness . I am here to guide you back to your real home, the place from where you came.”
“Daughter, you do not need to drink alcohol anymore. I am going to take you all towards your original home. From today onwards, leave drinking and the evil qualities that arise from it.” “This path is the path of awakening— of making the soul an awakened soul. God resides and is attained only in an awakened state. If the soul is impure and unconscious, how can God reside within it?”
“One becomes like the company one keeps. Sit with the divine, adopt divine qualities, and with such qualities, reach God.”
From that moment onwards, Margaret Shirley followed Hazur Maharaj Darshan Das Ji with a pure and devoted heart. Later, she even wrote a book titled
