The Divine Importance of Satsang | Spiritual Gatherings for All Beings
Satsang is important for everyone. Even the demi-gods and the Sapt Rishis follow the path of listening to satsang, they reamin calm and only lisen to satsang and follow the dictates.
Satsang is essential at all times; it is like an update on the path one needs to follow. God can only be attai when a soul develop the quality to listen about God.
We, in human form, need to correct and purify our minds every day. Just as we clean our surroundings daily, our minds also require cleanliness from the overload of thoughts and the burdens carried from life to life.
Listening plays a vital role in this journey of spiritual awakening.
In Gurbani, Guru Nanak Dev Ji wrote:
“Suni-ai sat santokh gyaan”
(Through true listening, the soul attains contentment and divine wisdom.)
Listening to satsang is a practice even followed by demi-gods, who sit together while one among them leads the satsang. The Sapt Rishis—who are above even the position of Brahma Rishis—also gathered together at the feet of Lord Shiva to attend satsang.
Thus, satsang is required for rishis, munis, and demi-gods as much as it is for human beings. Satsang acts as a spiritual update that everyone needs.
This pattern is present across all faiths. In Islam and Christianity as well, gatherings for remembering God and learning His message exist. In Christianity, for over 2000 years, satsang has been conducted on the life of Jesus—his birth, his teachings, and his divine works.
Our religion has blessed us with great granths and holy scriptures—Guru Granth Sahib, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Ramayan, the Vedas, and many more—through which satsang continues to guide the world.
Yet, we fall behind in understanding our vast spiritual literature and remain powerless by neglecting the importance of listening to or learning the divine messages of God revealed through the Holy Scriptures.
