There are many different appliances in our homes, such as a fridge, a fan, and a heater. Each appliance has a different form and performs a different function, yet the same electricity powers all of them.
Likewise, the great messengers of God—Krishna Ji, Ram Ji, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and Kabir Ji—appeared in different forms and at different times. Their teachings and ways of guiding humanity may have looked different, but the Divine Power working through them was one. They were different in roop (forms), yet the same Divine Light was behind them all.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji expressed this beautifully in Gurbani:
"Sabh meh jot, jot hai so-e.
Tis de chanan sabh meh chanan ho-e."
The same Divine Light (Jyot) shines within everyone. It is that one Light which empowers and enlightens all existence—the sun, the devas (demi-gods), human beings, and all of nature.
The Vedas also declare the same eternal truth:
"Ekam Sat Vipra Bahudha Vadanti."
Truth is One. The wise describe it in many different ways.
Similarly, in Sikh tradition we say:
"Sat Sri Akal."
Different forms, one Divine Light.
Different names, one Eternal Truth.
Why Different Forms of God, Yet Only One God?
Many people ask:
If Krishna Ji, Ram Ji, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Kabir Ji, and the great messengers of God all carried the same Divine Jyot (Light), then why did they appear in different forms?
The answer is simple.
God gives every soul the freedom to connect with Him in the way that suits their nature.
The one who loves Maryada (discipline and righteous living) follows the path shown by Ram Ji.
The one who loves Sakha Bhakti, dancing, singing, and celebrating Divine love, follows the path shown by Krishna Ji.
The one who simply wants to sit in silence, listen, meditate, and remember God's Name—without even clapping—finds that path through Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the Gurus, just as devotees peacefully meditate in a Gurudwara.
God never forces one path upon everyone. He gives freedom to every soul to remember Him according to its nature..
Guru Nanak Dev Ji beautifully expressed this truth:
"Ballehare Jau Jette Tere Naam Ne."
I bow again and again to Your countless Names and Divine Forms.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj also writes:
"Kaha Naam Tako, Kaha Keh Kahau.
Kaha Mein Bakhau, Kahe Moh Na Aave."
Even if I try to describe Your Names, I cannot speak them all. O Eternal God, Your Names are countless, and Your Divine Power is beyond description.
To help humanity understand this, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj composed Jaap Sahib, which contains hundreds of Divine Names describing the One Formless God.
Whichever Divine Name inspires a person's heart, they may remember God through that Name.
Different Names.
Different Forms.
Different Ways.
Yet the same Eternal God.
All these paths exist to help human beings understand and connect with the One Divine Reality according to their own nature.
